What does an EV battery temperature warning mean?

The traction battery operates within temperature ranges managed by the vehicle. Ambient temperature, fast charging and thermal-system faults can affect performance and charging.

What it may indicate

  • A battery temperature or cooling warning appears
  • Power or charging becomes limited
  • Fans or thermal-management systems operate unusually

What to check

  • Follow dashboard instructions and reduce load if directed
  • Inspect thermal management according to manufacturer procedures
  • Diagnose related sensors, pumps, cooling or climate systems as applicable

When to prioritize an inspection

With smoke, unusual odor, extreme heat or a critical warning, stop safely and seek assistance; do not handle the high-voltage battery.
