Why is my electric car charging so slowly?

Peak advertised charging power is not necessarily maintained throughout a session. The vehicle may reduce power based on temperature, state of charge and thermal management.

What it may indicate

  • Charging power is lower than during comparable sessions
  • Fast-charging power drops substantially at higher battery percentages
  • Charging behavior changes in very hot or cold weather

What to check

  • Compare with another compatible charger under similar conditions
  • Check vehicle settings and temperature-related limits
  • Diagnose onboard charging, thermal management and battery systems if the reduction persists

When to prioritize an inspection

If charging stops, warnings appear, heat is abnormal or the cable/connector is damaged, end the session and seek inspection.
