What should you do with a hybrid system warning?

Hybrids combine electrical systems and, depending on type, a combustion engine. The same warning can have different causes and requires vehicle-specific codes and data.

What it may indicate

  • A check hybrid system message appears
  • The vehicle limits power or changes operating mode
  • The combustion engine or electric drive behaves differently than normal

What to check

  • Record the message and conditions when it appeared
  • Perform hybrid-system-specific electronic diagnosis
  • Check the auxiliary battery, thermal management and components indicated by fault data

When to prioritize an inspection

Do not handle high-voltage components. If the vehicle instructs you to stop, severely limits power or produces smoke/unusual odor, stop safely and seek assistance.
