What does an ABS warning light mean?

The anti-lock braking system monitors sensors and electrical components. A warning means the system detected a fault and ABS may be limited even if conventional braking remains available.

What it may indicate

  • The ABS light remains on after startup
  • ABS, stability or traction warnings appear together
  • The warning starts after wheel or suspension work

What to check

  • Read ABS-module fault codes
  • Inspect wheel-speed sensors and wiring
  • Check power supply, connectors and components indicated by diagnosis

When to prioritize an inspection

If a red brake warning also appears, pedal behavior changes or braking performance drops, prioritize immediate inspection.
