Why isn't the car A/C cooling?

A system that cools poorly or stops cooling may need pressure testing, leak detection, electrical diagnosis or component inspection.

What it may indicate

  • Air flows but does not get cold
  • Cooling works intermittently
  • Noise or odors appear when the system is switched on

What to check

  • Check system performance and pressures
  • Look for leaks before adding refrigerant
  • Inspect compressor, fans, sensors and cabin filter

When to prioritize an inspection

A refrigerant top-up does not fix a leak. If refrigerant drops again, the underlying cause should be found and repaired.
