Why has fuel consumption increased?

Before blaming one component, compare similar trips and conditions. Traffic, weather, load and driving style can also change fuel use.

What it may indicate

  • Fuel use remains higher on comparable trips
  • Power loss, rough idle or warning lights appear
  • Tires are underinflated or show abnormal wear

What to check

  • Check tire pressure and condition
  • Review maintenance and filters according to the manufacturer
  • Diagnose engine and sensors if the change persists

When to prioritize an inspection

If higher fuel use comes with a strong fuel smell, smoke, leaks or engine faults, prioritize an inspection.
